DC Streetcar Surveying Services for Dynamic Envelope Pavement Marking Verification

Client: DDOT

Practice Area: Transportation Infrastructure

Hayat Brown LLC conducted operational safety and inspection testing of the DC Streetcar including performing the following tasks:

  • Monitor operational test runs
  • Document operational test runs
  • Develop QA/QC Operations and Maintenance document
  • Monitor snow emergency test runs

Hayat Brown LLC also performed surveying of the existing streetcar alignment along the entire route to develop as-builts of the dynamic envelope markings between Union Station and Oklahoma Avenue/Benning Road.

The survey limit is from approximately 100 feet west of the H St and 3rd St NE intersection to approximately 100 feet east of the Oklahoma Avenue/Benning Road intersection. The team measured (with tape) the distance from centerline of the outside rail to the closest edge of the extra wide red longitudinal pavement marking and to the adjacent edge of the white longitudinal pavement marking along H St, between the 3rd street intersection and the starburst intersection (Maryland Ave). The team also completed the following activities:

  • Verification and plotting of the thickness of the pavement markings
  • Surveying of all pavement markings within the intersections along and adjacent to the street car alignment
  • Locating any change in pavement markings, both in width and style (length of dash and skip) and include in submitted plots

Measuring (with tape) the pavement markings (extra wide red and 4” white) on each side of the tracks at the three intersections, H St and 3rd St, H St and Benning Road with Maryland Ave, and Benning Road with the spurs to the street car barn area(s)
